Phase out of refrigerant 22:

R-22 is an HCFC refrigerant that is often used in air conditioning equipment. To protect the Earth's protective ozone layer, the United States is phasing out R-22, along with other chemicals.

In 2020, R-22 will no longer be produced or imported. After 2020 only recovered, recycled, or reclaimed supplies of R-22 will be available.

The production of R-22 is being phased out. You are not required to stop using R-22 air conditioners nor to replace existing equipment. In the future R-22 will be more limited and costs of service equipment with R-22 will increase.
But there is another way to service your HVAC Unit  if you have a leak that is repairable is to use a great alternate R-22 alternate refrigerant which is R427A.

Forane 427A (R427A) - The Easy R-22 Retrofit
(R427A) is closest match to R-22 in terms of performances and operating pressures and was developed to minimize the work necessary during an R22 retrofit.  Due to its similar behavior in operation and its close thermodynamic properties in comparison to R22.

  • Retrofit R-22 air conditioning, heat pumps, and refrigeration systems
  • Better efficiency than most R22 retrofits
  • Comparable capacity to R-22
  • Nearly identical operating pressures to R-22
  • Lower discharge temperatures than R-22
  • One of the lowest GWP retrofits on the market
  • No oil change required in many installations
  • No TXV replacement required

New Efficiency Standards Changes:

New efficiency standards from the U.S. Department of Energy ( DOE) will go into effect January 1, 2015.  New Seasonal Energy Efficiency  Ratio (SEER) standards will be enforced for Air Conditioning and Heat Pump installed on or after January, 1,2015.  The current 13 SEER standards for Air Conditioning will move to 14 SEER in most states, but 13 SEER Air Conditioning Units can still be purchased until the local distributors run out of their remaining inventory, a 18 month grace period.
If your home Air Conditioning is over 10 years old.  It could be costing you  lots of money to keep it running.  The purchase of a high efficiency residential HVAC systems will not only save you money on your energy bills, but also has other benefits.   Efficiency, Reliability, and comfort.

Should you have your Air DUCTS in your home cleaned (According to the EPA)
Knowledge about air duct cleaning is in its early stages, so a blanket recommendation cannot be offered as to whether you should have your air ducts in your home cleaned. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) urges you to read this document in it entirety as it provides important information on the subject.

Duct cleaning has never been shown to actually prevent health problems. Neither do studies conclusively demonstrate that particle (e.g., dust) levels in homes increase because of dirty air ducts. This is because much of the dirt in air ducts adheres to duct surfaces and does not necessarily enter the living space. It is important to keep in mind that dirty air ducts are only one of many possible sources of particles that are present in homes. Pollutants that enter the home both from outdoors and indoor activities such as cooking, cleaning, smoking, or just moving around can cause greater exposure to contaminants than dirty air ducts. Moreover, there is no evidence that a light amount of household dust or other particulate matter in air ducts poses any risk to your health.  To read more go to EPA website
